Florida Is A Golfer's Dream Come True
If you are a golfer and you wanted to play a different golf course every day in the state of Florida, it would take you almost three and a half years to accomplish that mission. Oh, but what a mission it would be, as Florida has some of the most beautiful golfing venues in the world. Add your favorite game, with beautiful coarses, and beautiful weather (while others shovel snow) and you will quickly see that Florida is not only paradise, but a golfer's paradise as well! Florida has more golf courses than any other state in America with over 1,250 golf courses located throughout the state. Palm Beach County has the most courses than any other county in Florida with 160. Because of its mild winters, warm springs, and top notch championship golf courses, Florida also plays host to many of the top PGA tournaments each year, giving you many opportunities to watch the pros make the game look easy.
Our Top 5 Golf Resorts
This list could easily be a top fifteen instead of five, and is not in any way meant to slight the ones that we have not included, as Florida is blessed with amazing golf resorts throughout the state. The following resorts are not in any particular order either.
World Golf Village Renaissance St.Augustine Resort - St. Augustine Florida
Not only is this a great golf resort that features all of the luxurious emenities that one would expect, PLUS the World Golf Hall of Fame. The resort also is the home to Bill Murray & Bros. Caddyshack Restaurant which is very popular. The ementies though that the golfers are most interested in are their two championship courses, The King & Bear course which is the only course co-designed by Arnold Palmer (the King), and Jack Nicklaus (the Bear), and the Slammer & Squire course designed by Bobby Weed along with Sammy Snead (the Slammer), and Gene Sarazen (the Squire).
Innisbrook a Salamander Golf & Spa Resort - Palm Harbor, Florida
Located in Palm Harbor Florida, which is north of Clearwater, Innisbrook features four exceptional courses: The world famous Copperhead Course, which hosts the PGA's annual Valspar Championship, is best known for "the snake pit." The snake pit is the not so affectionate moniker for holes #16 (Mocassin), #17 (Rattler), and #18 (Copperhead), where many tournaments have been won and lost. Innisbrook's other three courses though not as difficult as Copperhead (few are), are still very challenging and beautifully designed, they are the Island course, the North course, and the South course. All four courses were designed by Lawrence "Larry" Packard, and Larry designed them to give golfers more of a Carolina sandhills/Georgia foothills feel rather than a typical Florida terrain.
LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort - Naples, Florida
This beautiful resort has the best of both worlds for a full Florida experience, a beautiful beach that features beach chairs with umbrellas and a "beach butler service", as well as four beautiful pools that feature private cabanas, and of course a beautiful, and challenging golf course. LaPlaya only has one 18 hole golf course compared to the others with multiple courses, but what a course it is, and that paired with the beach, and pools it has a hard combination to beat, especially for families. The course has a challenging links type layout, and measures 6,902 yards for a par 72.
Trump National Doral Resort - Miami, Florida
One of the most famous golf facilities in the world Trump National Doral also has all of the emenities that one would expect from a luxurious resort. A beautiful resort that features four beautiful golf courses, with the most famous course being the Blue Monster. The Blue Monster is known for being one of the world's most challenging golf courses, and after a 2014 revamp it just got longer, and tougher. The 7,608 yard course features one of the most infamous and toughest holes in golfdom, the 473 yard par 4 18th hole. The Blue Monster has hosted PGA tournaments for 55 consecutive years. The other courses include the Golden Palm, the Red Tiger, and the Silver Fox.
PGA National Resort & Spa - Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
The PGA National Resort & Spa features an amazing six golf courses, and each one is truly amazing unto itself. The Champion course is considered to be one of hardest tests on the PGA tour, as it features 7,045 yards of difficulty. The Champion like Doral's Blue Monster also went through a re-design in 2014 by none other than Jack Nicklaus. The other five courses will for sure not be a let down, The Palmer course is named after its designer Arnold Palmer, and is probably the most forgiving of National's six fantastic golf courses, then there are the Fazio course, the Estate course, the Match course, and the Staple course.
